Dave, G6XUV and Jason, came with the idea to run a small construction project during the club nights.

The Slim Jim is a VHF band antenna, soldered from copper pipes. The dimensions for the antenna were taken from an online calculator.

The critical issues in design and construction are:

• the position of the feeder
• Ability to withstand the wind.
• Tuning the antenna.

Dave came with some ideas to improve mechanical design. Once Jason cut the pipes and and soldered them together, he could measure SWR. 1.4 was not a bad value to start with.
