Next amateur radio operator's training course.

The course will be held over four Friday evenings:
9, 16, 23, 30th October at 19.00 to 21.00 at the SARS HQ in Sidford,Sidmouth EX10 9TB

We will then hold the exam on the morning of SATURDAY 7th November (time to be confirmed usually 11.00am) at SARS HQ.

The course fee is £40 and the RSGB Examination fee for Foundation is £35.50 totalling £75.50

The fees can be paid at any SARS meeting prior to the course (30th or 7th ) note we can only accept cash or a cheque.

SARS usually runs a Foundation Course starting after the Christmas holiday. Dependent on interest, we usually offer a course starting in September.

• Who is this course for?

  This course is for people interested in learning more amateur radio and acquire the licence to operate an amateur radio station.

• Why do I need an amateur radio licence?

  The radio wave spectrum is a property of the society, and it must be tightly controlled and regulated. The amateur radio operators are part of the user community of the spectrum and need to know basic rules about using the spectrum when operating the radio station.

• Is there some option to operate the radio station without having the licence?

  Some frequencies are specifically assigned by the regulatory body called OFCOM to be used by the general public. This is called licence-free. Please consult your shop, whether the radio (walkie-talkie) requires an amateur radio licence.

• What is the required course material?

  For the course you will need the Foundation manual via the RSGB bookshop or on Amazon, make sure you get the latest version, yellow cover
